Formulated With

Rice bran oil (Oryza Sativa)

The workhorse. Light, quick-rinsing, dissolves makeup and SPF cleanly without overstaying.

Sunflower seed oil (Helianthus Annuus)

The steady one. High in linoleic acid — the fatty acid skin uses to build its own lipids. Keeps skin balanced and comfortable.

Black currant seed oil (Ribes Nigrum)

The star. One of the richest natural sources of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), a rare omega-6 that skin uses to soothe and support itself while you cleanse.

Ceramide complex (Ceramide NP, AP, EOP + cholesterol + phytosphingosine)

The bodyguard. The barrier lipids skin uses to hold itself together. Usually lives in serums and moisturisers. Here it helps protect your barrier while you cleanse.

Squalane

The insider. The stable, skin-identical form of a lipid your skin already produces. We're just topping it up.

Macadamia, apricot, plum, bitter cherry, moringa seed oils

Conditioning botanical oils that support the base without weight.

Bisabolol

Soothing active, best known as the calming component of chamomile.

Polysorbate 80 + PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate + Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate + PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate

The emulsifier system. Gentle and non-ionic, this is what transforms the oil into a milk when water is added so it lifts off completely rather than sitting on skin.

Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate + Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables

Olive-derived emollients that condition and stabilise.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Stabilised vitamin E. Sits alongside the ceramide complex to protect the lipid phase from oxidation.

Tocopherol

Vitamin E in its native form. Antioxidant.

From the founder

Accutane twice. Lasers in Korea. £300 creams. Sephora's highest loyalty tier. I've tried it all and most of it was fine. Fine is the problem. So I spent a year researching what actually works, writing product briefs so detailed one lab said they'd never seen anything like it. If a formula can't be smarter or better than what's already out there, we don't make it.

Meltaway oil cleanser FAQs

Does it remove waterproof makeup and mineral SPF?

Yes. Oil dissolves oil — that's the whole point. Massage on dry skin for 30–60 seconds, then emulsify with water and rinse.

Do I still need a second cleanse?

Not necessarily. This rinses completely clean, so a single cleanse is enough for most days. After heavy makeup, or if you prefer finishing with a water-based cleanser, follow with a second step.

Is Second Skin SPF 50 reef-safe?

It contains no oxybenzone or octinoxate, the two filters most associated with reef damage.

Does it foam?

No. It emulsifies into a light milk when you add water, then rinses away completely.

Is it really fragrance-free?

Yes. No parfum, no essential oils, no masking fragrance. If you've reacted to other oil cleansers (many use essential oils or fragrance blends), this one is specifically for you.

It feels rich. Will it leave a film?

No. The richness is the oil phase; the emulsifier system means it lifts off completely with water. Rich going on, clean coming off.

Will it break me out?

It's non-comedogenic tested.

Can I use it on my eyes?

Yes. Massage gently over closed eyes to dissolve mascara and eye makeup, then emulsify with water and rinse. Avoid direct contact with the eye itself.

Morning or evening?

Both, if you like. In the morning it removes overnight buildup and product residue; in the evening it removes makeup, SPF and daily grime.

Why is there a ceramide complex in a wash-off? Doesn't it just rinse away?

The complex is dispersed through the oil phase and worked into skin during the 30–60 second massage. It's not a leave-on hit of ceramides — it's barrier support built into the step that most cleansers use to strip.
