Most skincare is fine. Fine is the problem.

Fine means it hydrates and that's it. Fine means it's £40, fragrance-heavy, and does one job while claiming to do five. Fine means an industry that sold you more products instead of better ones.

NecessaryGood exists because fine shouldn't be the standard. A capsule range, each one earns its place. No filler. No filler ingredients, no filler claims, no filler steps in your routine.

Our Story

My skin changed. The industry's answer was to sell me more products.

Accutane twice. Lasers in Korea. £300 creams. Sephora's highest loyalty tier for years. I've tried it all and most of it was fine.

I quit my corporate job after one year, right after getting a promotion, for a brand that didn't fully exist yet. My colleagues thought I was crazy. I spent the next year reading every startup and skincare book I could find, cold messaging chemists on LinkedIn, visiting labs. I was looking for what actually works versus what's marketing. The answer was simpler than the industry wants you to think.

Smarter or better. Or we don't make it.

I write every product brief myself. One of our labs told me they'd never received such a detailed brief from a client. That's not a flex. That's the minimum.

Every product has to be smarter or better than what's already on the market. If it can't be, we don't make it. Our range is two products. We're working on more. We're just always late because we'd rather redo a formula than launch something mediocre.

I'll recommend other brands if I think they're genuinely better for something we don't make. I'm not trying to be everything to everyone. I'm trying to make the things we do make genuinely excellent.
