At NecessaryGood, we believe less can do more when it’s done with intention. Whether it’s your moisturiser, SPF, or your whole routine we want you to get the most out of your skincare—with zero faff and maximum payoff. Here are our 3 skincare tips for the perfect, healthier-looking skin.

1. Get more from your products by applying to damp skin: This skincare tip is simple but effective. Slightly damp skin acts like a sponge—it pulls in hydration and helps your products absorb more effectively. After cleansing, apply your moisturiser while your skin is still a little damp to lock in that moisture.

Even better if your product contains hyaluronic acid (like our Bright & Hydrated Moisturiser does), this step becomes even more important—it draws in water, and damp skin gives it more to work with.

Pro tip: Using retinol? That’s the exception. Instead apply to completely dry skin and wait at least 10 - 20 minutes before layering anything on top. This helps reduce irritation and gives the active more time to do its job.

2. Understand how to layer your products: If you’re using more than one skincare product in your routine, the trick is to layer from thinnest to thickest—think watery to creamy. “How much time should I leave between products?” Give each layer 30–60 seconds to settle before applying the next. That’s just enough time to brush your teeth or make a coffee.

Letting each product absorb properly helps maximise results—and also prevents dreaded pilling.

The really important rule in your skincare routine? : SPF always goes last. Apply it 15–20 minutes before going outside, and wait about five minutes before putting on makeup. SPF is your skin’s shield, and it needs time to set before anything else goes on top. And no, your foundation with SPF isn’t enough. You’re not using enough of it to get full protection, which is why a dedicated SPF (like our Protected & Hydrated SPF 50) is essential.

3. Store beauty products properly: Did you know heat, light, and air can break down active ingredients and shorten your product’s shelf life. Sensitive ingredients like vitamin C and retinoids are especially vulnerable. So, what’s the best way to store them? Ideally, store skincare in a cool, dark space like a drawer or vanity. If your bathroom gets hot or steamy, it’s worth keeping products elsewhere—especially the ones doing the heavy lifting. That said, if your bathroom stays cool and well-ventilated, you don’t have to overthink it. Just avoid sunny shelves, open surfaces, or spots near radiators.

Which formats should you look for to get the most out of your products? This might surprise you… Jars and droppers expose your formulas to air with every use, speeding up oxidation. Clear bottles let in light, which can also degrade what’s inside. Anything that exposes your product to air or light? Not ideal.

That’s why NecessaryGood uses Innerbottle technology® (yes, shameless product plug—but it’s worth it).  — the opaque inner balloon helps protect your product from light and air, while the airless pump ensures the product isn't exposed to air until it is dispensed.

The real secret to great skin? You don’t need more products—you just need to choose wisely and use them better.

Dr Jo Mennie says it perfectly: “As a doctor, I see first-hand how overwhelmed people feel by modern skincare. NecessaryGood is a breath of fresh air: intelligent, intentional, and effective. It takes the guesswork out of skincare with high-performance formulas that do exactly what they say they will. Fewer steps, better skin, and no unnecessary clutter.”

Smart, effective habits—plus a few smart, effective formulas—are all it takes. Less faff. More results.
